  • author — person who writes an article.

  • editor — someone typically at a university department, supported by an editorial board.
  • copy editor — someone who corrects the spelling, punctuation, layout and so forth.
  • referee — someone organized by the editor who produces a judgement on the publication-worthiness of the article.
  • content editor — someone familiar with the academic field of the article who edits the article for matters of intellectual content. The referee does this to some extent. The editor or someone on the editorial board may also do it. But it might be someone else, entirely.
  • (journal) secretary — often the editor's departmental secretary, but sometimes a fully-funded person, who does all the real work of correspondence and organization. Some of this functionality will be offered by Sayanha.
