40px | This is a documentation subpage for Template:Cite quote. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Usage
Use this tag: {{Cite quote|date=November 2024}}
for quotations that are used without a citation. Per Wikipedia:Citing sources: ". . .such things as quotations and particularly controversial statements should be supported by citations even in the lead." Statements marked with this template will put their articles in Category:Articles with unsourced quotes.
Do not use this tag in order to label text which appears doubtful or false, especially in the case of biographies of living people (see this section of WP:3RR as well). Otherwise please use {{verify source}}.
Regarding the unsourced or poorly sourced information:
- if it is not doubtful, you may use {{citation needed}} or {{cite quote}} tag to ask for better citation in order to make the article complete.
- if it is doubtful but not too harmful to the whole article, you may use {{verify source}} tag to ask for source verification.
- If it is doubtful and (quite) highly harmful, you may move it to the talk page and ask for a source.
- If it is very doubtful and very harmful, you may remove it directly without the need of moving it to the talk page first.
To find all the articles that use this template, please visit What links here. For articles which lack sources, please visit Category:Articles lacking sources.
This template is a self-reference and so is part of the Wikipedia project rather than the encyclopedic content.
