Template:EmmyTVLegends title/doc

This is a template to generate links to interviews of specific people at the Archive of American Television website. It should only be used in the "external links" section of an article.

To link a specific person, use {{EmmyTVLegends name}}.

Usage

The required parameter is the ID text. The template then uses the article title as the anchor text:

* {{EmmyTVLegends title|ID}}
* {{EmmyTVLegends title | id = ID}}

To have the link text be other than the article name, use second parameter:

* {{EmmyTVLegends title|ID|Name}}
* {{EmmyTVLegends title | id = ID | title = Title}}

Instructions

  1. Go to emmytvlegends.org and search for the show you want
  2. Click on the correct link to go to the person page
  3. The URL will look like this: http://www.emmytvlegends.org/interviews/shows/<!-- ID -->. Copy the part of the url which is substituted here with <!-- ID -->. This will be the first parameter (or id=).
  4. Add the person's name in the next parameter (or name=) if it is different from the page name.
  5. Add one of the following to the external links section of the article:
* {{EmmyTVLegends shows | id= <<!-- ID -->}}
* {{EmmyTVLegends shows | <!-- ID -->}}
* {{EmmyTVLegends shows | id= <!-- ID --> | title= <!-- title -->}}
* {{EmmyTVLegends shows | <!-- ID --> | <!-- title -->}}

This can be used when the Wikipedia page name contains disambiguation brackets; for example at the page Robert Butler (director) use {{EmmyTVLegends name|robert-butler|Robert Butler}} to have "Robert Butler interview video at the Archive of American Television" rather than "Robert Butler (director) interview video at the Archive of American Television". This is also necessary should you need to add an interview link to an article about somebody or something other than the linked person (for example, if you include the link for Meeting of Minds in the Steve Allen article, you must specify "Meeting of Minds" as the text for the link using this option).

Detailed instructions

  1. Copy and paste one of the options above into the article
  2. Go to http://www.emmytvlegends.org/interviews/people and search for the person you want (say, The Dick Cavett Show; you'll reach http://www.emmytvlegends.org/interviews/shows/dick-cavett-show-the)
  3. Copy only the text after /people/ (here, "dick-cavett-show-the")
  4. Replace "ID" in the template code with the text
    1. For the first option above, you'll then have
      * {{EmmyTVLegends title|dick-cavett-show-the}} resulting in:
      Note that the link text is the same as the title of the page the template is used on; outside the page "The Dick Cavett Show", use the second option:
    2. Replace "ID" with the text taken from the URL and "Name" with "Dick Cavett"
      * {{EmmyTVLegends title|dick-cavett-show-the|The Dick Cavett Show}} results in:
