Infobox pirate may be used to summarize information about an individual involved in piracy in a standard manner.

The infobox should be added using the {{infobox pirate}} template, as shown below:

- name – the full name of the person.
- image – optional – an image of the person. The image must be given in the form Example.jpg.
- caption – optional – the text to be placed below the image.
- nickname – optional – nickname(s) by which the person was known.
- alias – optional – alias(s) by which the person was known, i.e. valid given names and surnames.
- type – optional – a specific designation for which particular type of piracy subject was engaged (ex. privateer, buccaneer, corsair, etc.)
- birth_date – optional – the date of birth, if known, using {{Birth date}} or {{Birth date and age}}. For unusual cases, such as where only dates of activities are known, the lived parameter may be used instead.
- death_date – optional – the date of death, if applicable and known, in {{Death date and age}}.
- birth_place – optional – the person's birthplace.
- death_place – optional – the place where the person died.
- allegiance – optional – the country or other power the person served. Multiple countries may be indicated together with the corresponding dates.
- serviceyears – optional – the years during which the person served.
- base of operations – optional – a general area or stronghold used by person.
- rank – optional – the highest rank achieved by the person (most often awarded from colonial officials via letters of marque). Unusual cases, such as this rank not being the last achieved, or the rank being awarded posthumously, may be noted. In cases where the person held different ranks in different armies, multiple ranks should be specified with a date and country note for each.
- commands – optional – for specific ships under direct command of subject.
- battles – optional – any notable battles or wars in which the person participated. This should be omitted if a campaignbox is used in conjunction with this template.
- wealth – optional – an estimate of the accumulated wealth gained during career.
- laterwork – optional – the profession or positions held by the person after they retired from piracy (ex. pirate hunter, farmer, public official, etc.).
Microformat
The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.
Sub-templates
Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583).
